About
me
My name is Shannon Edgar, and I partner with organizations to design and develop engaging learning experiences that create effective and meaningful change. My instructional design process is rooted in a deep understanding of the importance of embracing change. I have never been fearful of, or resistant to change. In fact, I thrive on it!
I have always been an innovator with a desire to help people and learn from them. I took my first teaching job on a remote island in Micronesia in the middle of the Pacific, and the rest is history. When I returned to the States, I poured my heart into my career as an educator. After many fulfilling years, I decided to take a different path, but I've never left my goal of helping people behind.
In pursuit of a more flexible lifestyle, I signed up for the Applied Instructional Design Academy to gain the new skills I needed to enter the field of instructional design. Through lots of in-depth training and hard work, I have discovered instructional design is the perfect match for my creativity, innovation, and love of learning.
I believe in the transformative power of lifelong learning. My design process is centered around empowering professionals to become self-directed learners who actively seek growth opportunities. I incorporate strategies that spark curiosity, encourage active participation, and honor diversity and inclusion.
Outside of work, I love music, theatre, and travel. In the past year, my family and I have spent extended time in New York City, Los Angeles, and Santa Fe, in addition to our home in the suburbs of Chicago. Through our travels, I have experienced 15 Broadway shows, 5 operas, countless art exhibits, and many stunning hikes from Central Park to the mountains of New Mexico.

process
ANALYSIS
First I gather information about learners, needs, and goals from the team or subject matter experts. Conducting a thorough needs analysis helps me determine performance gaps, desired outcomes, any existing resources or restraints, and learning objectives. This step is a collaborative process that allows us to define clear goals.
DESIGN
After collaborating with team members, I write a design document that outlines the learning objectives, delivery mode, and interactive learning strategies that adhere to adult learning principles. I write and organize the content in the form of a storyboard, in addition to designing the visual aspects of the course. I submit both the design document and the storyboard for the client's approval.
DEVELOPMENT
Next I develop the course. Tools I use include Articulate Storyline 360, Articulate Rise 360, Canva, Camtasia, Powtoon, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and WellSaid Labs. Throughout the development phase, I use an iterative approach that incorporates feedback, revisions, and quality assurance checks.
IMPLEMENTATION
Once the instructional materials are finalized, I deliver them to the client for implementation. I provide all files to integrate materials into learning management systems or other preferred methods of distribution.
EVALUATION
I collaborate with teams to evaluate the effectiveness of trainings. This may involve gathering learner feedback, conducting post-training assessments, and analyzing the overall impact on performance and learning outcomes. This is tailored to each client's unique needs and preferences to ensure tangible results for organizations.
